Universal Metal Corporation was established in 1953, by Joseph Freilich as Universal Scrap Iron and Metal Company. The company's focus was nonferrous, stainless, and nickel alloy scrap metals generated from scrap metal dealers and industrial accounts in the Northeastern United States. The testing methods for sorting these metals included acids, grindstones, magnets, and spectroscopes.
In 1977 the company purchased one of the first Kevex units to become available. Our technical personnel worked closely with Kevex Corporation staff during the initial phases of product development to improve the software and performance of these units. The company purchased new updated Kevex models as soon as they were produced.
