Our History

Timpson Trading Corporation prides itself on a long family legacy dating back to 1936. Anthony Scottino, the current owners' Father and Grandfather, began working in this industry at the age of twelve. With much forethought and vision, he purchased a small building on Timpson Place. Timpson Salvage was born. It was then that he began recycling rags, paper and cardboard. Later metal recycling was added to the business and additional adjoining real estate was purchased to accommodate the expanding business.

Our Misssion

Today Timpson Trading Corporation remains a staple in the South Bronx. We now exclusively recycle metal and provide our customers with a streamlined means of recycling all grades of metal. We pride ourselves on continuing the tradition and integrity that was instilled in us years ago. As we enter out third generation of ownership, we are honored to provide our community with a greener, healthier place to live.

Sustainability

Recycling scrap is good for the economy as well as the environment. According to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries the United States recycles 150 million metric tons of scrap materials per year. That includes iron, steel, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, lead, zinc, brass, bronze, magnesium and tin.

In 2008 the scrap recycling industry in the United States generated $86 billion and supported 85,000 jobs. Also in that year, the U.S. exported $28.6 billion of scrap commodities which contributed significantly to U.S. trade balances.

Recycling scrap metal reduces greenhouse gasses by using a significantly less amount of energy than making metal from virgin ore. Recycling also conserves resources. For example, recycling one ton of steel conserves 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,400 pounds of coal and 120 pounds of limestone.

Metals can be continually recycled with out losing any of their inherent properties making them very valuable and the scrap industry a booming business.

Timpson Trading is a full service yard and we pride ourselves on our ease of service and customer relationships.
