GenAlta Recycling Inc. operates an automobile shredder at our facility in East Edmonton adjacent to the AltaSteel mill. We purchase a wide range of shreddable ferrous scrap from a variety of customers ranging from individuals with one or two items to manufacturers generating a broad range of industrial scrap to auto wrecking yards and scrap collectors. In addition, we have the ability to purchase “dirty” non-ferrous scrap (items with ferrous metals or other materials attached) that can be efficiently processed and separated through our shredding process.

Through the operation of the shredder, GenAlta Recycling Inc. has the ability to efficiently process many non ferrous products that cannot be efficiently and effectively processed by other more labour intensive methods. As a result, GenAlta is able to offer competitive pricing for many products for which markets and pricing options can otherwise be quite limited.Examples of products that GenAlta purchases include:
