Characteristics
Stainless Steel Expanded Metal is a sheet product that has been slit and stretched to a wide array of diamond shaped openings. Stainless steel expanded metal offers savings in weight and metal, free passage of light, liquid, sound and air, while providing a decorative or ornamental effect. The strands and bonds of the bindings add strength and rigidity plus resist unraveling.304 stainless steel is a commercial grade of stainless steel sheet metal and the most widely used stainless steel.
304 stainless steel sheet metal is anti-rusting and heat resistant steel for general use. 304 stainless steel sheet metal uses include food equipment, plumbing materials, kitchen sinks, and back splashes. 304 stainless steel expanded metal is austenitic, meaning it will not attract or hold a magnet.
The 304 stainless steel expanded sheet has a raised, unpolished (mill) surface. The 304 stainless steel grade provides good strength and weldability, and is resistant to corrosion. It is typically nonmagnetic. The raised surface offers skid resistance and a high strength-to-weight ratio.
Expanded metal sheets are created by slitting and cold-forming metal as it expands in a press. This process creates diamond-shaped openings that are nominally measured the long way of the diamond (LWD) and the short way of the diamond (SWD). Raised, or standard, expanded sheets offer a skid-resistant surface and a high strength-to-weight ratio. Flat expanded sheets have been rolled for a smooth, level surface. Expanded metal sheets are measured by the percentage of open area, which is the ratio of open space to total space in a given area. A sheet with a larger percentage of open area contains less material than one with a smaller percentage.

Stainless Steel Expanded Metal Features: Economical, Durable, Versatile, Easy to install, Low resistance to wind loads. Used for screening, filtration, ventilation, security, architectural and decorative purposes, stainless steel expanded metal is lightweight and easy to fabricate and form. With its slip-resistant properties, it is also the ideal solution for existing slippery flooring in industries such as food processing and pharmaceutical.
Applications
It is used for Security fencing, Window guards, Filtration, Handrails, Battery netting, Reinforcement materials, Retail shelving, Signage, Partitions, Ceiling tiles, Walkways, Stair treads, Railings. Because of its favorable strength-to-weight ratio, expanded metal has hundreds of uses, from air filters to patio furniture to walkways.
