5083 Aluminum Plate
Characteristics
5083 aluminum plate has higher strength than 5052 plate and a high resistance to corrosion. It is especially suited to cryogenic applications as it is able to withstand extremely low temperatures without brittleness or losing its other properties. 5083 aluminum is easy to form, stamp, weld and finish and has exceptional thermal conductivity. In the tempered condition, it retains good formability due to excellent ductility. It is highly suitable for welding and can be hardened by cold work. Because Alloy 5083 exhibits excellent resistance to general corrosion, it is used in marine applications. Since it is capable of withstanding extremely low temperatures without brittleness or loss of properties, it is especially suited to the cryogenic market.5083 is alloyed with 4.45% magnesium, 0.65% manganese and 0.15% chromium. With excellent corrosion resistance and weldability, together with high strength, this alloy was designed for welded structures requiring maximum joint strength and efficiency. It has high resistance to both sea water and industrial chemical environments due to mainly aluminium and relatively high magnesium content.
