HISTORY
Founded in 1961 as Orbit Electric, a provider of electroplated wire for the emerging electronics and aerospace markets, Orbel has grown from a one-employee organization to a global company headquartered in a 57,000 sq. ft. facility.
SETTING THE STANDARD
A man with the vision, perseverance, and dedication needed to steadily grow a company based on technology, customer service, and quality, Dan Marino started Orbel in Bloomfield, New Jersey. By 1968, the business had outgrown its space and a decision was made to construct a new facility just outside Phillipsburg, New Jersey. This building would serve as home to Orbel for the next 16 years while allowing ongoing growth. At this point the company had a total of 10 reel-to-reel electroplating lines, processing light-gauge metal strip and wire for the specialty low-volume market.
In 1984, Orbel made the move to a 42,000 sq. ft. building in Phillipsburg. During this period, Orbel introduced rack-and-barrel electroplating to better support customer needs.
In 2001, Orbel purchased the assets of Industrial Engraving, the oldest photo chemical milling operation in America. Official photo etching began in 2002. Orbel quickly established a presence in the PCM industry with our ability to etch and electroplate under one roof.
By 2004 it was evident that Orbel could no longer support our growth in our Phillipsburg location. Our current 57,000 sq. ft. facility is located in Easton, Pennsylvania. The single-story building sits on seven acres, allowing for up to 40,000 sq. ft. of future expansion.
FORMING THE FUTURE
In 2008, Orbel completed an extensive manufacturing expansion, broadening our capabilities to include custom stamping, fixture heat treating, specialized contip plating, and enhanced prototyping and short-run production. These capabilities were the result of Orbel purchasing the coinciding manufacturing equipment and transferring these technologies and processes from Laird Technologies and Instrument Specialties. With these additional capabilities, Orbel is positioned to provide customers around the world with a comprehensive range of precision products including EMI/RFI shielding, photo-etched parts, metal stampings, reel-to-reel electroplating, and electroplated metal foils.
