History

Founded in 1960 and originally named Capital Pattern and Model Works, the business was founded by Richard Steffey. Capital Pattern was a close-tolerance, hands-on operation that specialized in foundry pattern equipment and die model making while operating in a 1800 square foot facility in Villa Park, Illinois.

In the 1970's, Capital Pattern and Model Works moved its operations to a new 3,800 square foot building and expanded into plastic prototype parts while tending to major clients such as International Business Machines (IBM). Throughout the 1980's, the business changed greatly as the nature of die model making changed and Capital Pattern’s focus increasingly shifted to foundry patterns and prototype parts. In the mid 1980's Capital Pattern started to implement its 'turnkey' approach by supplying customers with prototype patterns and the prototype aluminum castings.

In 1990, Capital Pattern and Model Works was purchased by Douglas Steffey, son of Richard, and the name was changed to Capital Pattern and Model, Inc. Shortly after, Capital Pattern took its operations to a new level by introducing significant advances in technology into its pattern making process. In 1991, Capital lead the way by implementing CAD/CAM and CNC machining into their pattern making process. Capital Pattern continued to expand its client base to include point of purchase, engineering companies, vacuum forming companies, foundries, and ceramic part companies. Establishing a large prototype casting client base, Capital Pattern continued to expand on its 'turnkey' casting process by aligning tooling, foundry, and machining companies.

In 2006, Capital Pattern and Model, Inc. moved operations to its current 11,500 square foot facility in Glendale Heights, Illinois. A larger shop gave Capital Patterm the ability to manufacture larger pattern equipment while simultaneously establishing in-house secondary machining capabilities.

In 2012, the decision was made to change the name of the company to CPM Industries in order to more closely convey the scope of the business. Also, Lance and Jason, sons of Doug, both took a partnership role with their father in the ownership of CPM Industries officially making it a third generation owned company.
