Nivert Metal Supply Inc.

History

In 1936, Albert Nivert started a small scrap business in Scranton, PA. His brother, Harry, joined him in the business because someone with education was needed on the team. Nivert Metal Supply Inc was started with a $300 bank loan and within 2 years, the business grew too large for their location, so they moved to a former lumberyard at 551 Front Street.

Establishing Nivert Metal Supply Inc

After serving in the Navy during WWII, Harry returned home with the idea to purchase government surplus metal to sell to local construction companies as a side business.

As the business grew over the next few years, the brothers decided to split into two separate companies. Al moved the scrap business to Minooka and Harry established Nivert Metal Supply Inc on the existing site. The business continued serving the metal needs of Northeastern Pennsylvania and by 1960, the company had grown enough to include a second site in Binghampton, NY.

Expanding the Business

In 1965, construction of the new Spruce Street Bridge forced the company to move. The Keystone Industrial Park in Throop, PA was chosen as the new, 14.7 acre, site. The now 125,000 sq. ft. building houses over 6,500 tons of inventory and includes:

• 14 5-, 10-, and 15-ton bridge cranes
• 2 Cincinnati shears
• 2 plasma and oxy burn tables
• 4 vertical band saws
• 2 horizontal saws
• 1 cold saw
• 1 rebar shear

Keeping the Business in the Family

Today, Nivert Metal Supply Inc is run by Harry's son, Louis. He began working with the company full-time in 1971. Louis' daughter, Rebecca, joined the company in 2009 and was soon joined by her brother, Aaron, in 2012. As three generations run the company and with over 75 years of experience in the metal industry, they continue to serve their valued customers in Northeast Pennsylvania and will continue to do so for generations to come.
