No newcomer to the construction trade, owner Jim Smith is recognized as one of the region’s most experienced and knowledgeable industry veterans. Upon graduating from the University of Georgia, Jim Smith was commissioned in the United States Army and served in the Corps of Engineers. He then became a member of the Procter & Gamble sales organization where he worked until starting his construction career. Custom home building and multi-family development preceded his work in the millwork and fine stair business. In the early 1990s, the post frame and steel building enterprise was founded and is the core of Smith Steel & Supply, Inc. to this day.
