Over 80 Years of Custom Metal Fabricating Experience!

OUR HISTORY

The key to Standard Iron’s continued success has been change—the willingness to adapt their business in response to the changing needs and demands of the customer, the industry, and the times.

Founded 1930

Standard Iron found its niche in the construction market fabricating metal products for the building construction industry.

1941-1950

During the period right after World War II, Standard Iron continued supplying miscellaneous metals for the booming construction industry. At that time, Standard Iron also began fabricating parts for farm implement manufacturers—this didn’t become a major factor in the business until the 1960s.

1951-1960

Standard Iron was slowly starting to build up its sales to farm implement manufacturers. During this time period, sales literally leaped across the sales chart to over $250,000.

1961-1970

In the 1960s, “outsourcing” of metal fabrications was the “new way” large and small corporations could grow without capital expenditures for buildings and equipment. Standard Iron took advantage of this opportunity and started providing “outsourcing” services to many agricultural equipment manufacturers throughout the Midwest.

From this outsourcing service the Contract Manufacturing Division was established and has become a significant part of Standard Iron’s business.

1971-1980

The 70s brought increased competition, and to lower its costs, Standard Iron built additional manufacturing facilities in Sauk Centre and Alexandria, MN.

1981-1990

Standard Iron expanded its markets to North Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois, and a Customer Service Department was added to the Contract Manufacturing Division.

1991-2000

Standard Iron moved its corporate offices to Monticello, MN and expanded its facilities in both Sauk Centre and Alexandria. This century also brought a change in leadership—Rich, Joe and Bill Demeules took over the leadership roles of the company

2001-2010

In August of 2004, Standard Iron had a groundbreaking ceremony for its new 110,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Grand Island, which officially opened in July of 2005. During this time, Standard Iron expanded internationally, opening a manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico.
