West Kentucky Steel

West Kentucky Steel was founded in 1958, by the late James A. Gooch Sr. For over 40 years we have serviced the Coal mining and Rock quarry industries. In the early years, we traveled all over America, erecting Draglines and Coal preparation plants, and even had the distinction of erecting the world's largest dragline 'Big Muskie'.

Today, we are more geared toward the manufacturing and rebuild of today's' heavy mining equipment. No one in the industry has a better reputation for quality, service, and competitive pricing, but most importantly, honesty in doing what is expected of us and standing behind our products.

We started as a small family owned business and that remains true today. Both sons of James A. Gooch Sr. are still active in running the business on a day to day basis. Eddie Gooch serves as President and Jim Gooch Jr. serves as Vice President. James' only daughter, Shelia Gooch Kelley, serves on the Board of Directors.

We believe that staying small and personal with our customers has been part of the reason for our success and survival. By staying small, our overhead is much less than the large manufacturers that we complete with. This savings is passed on directly to the customers. By staying small Eddie and Jim are on the job daily to inspect the quality of all work in progress. They grew up working hands on in the shop and learned to operate every piece of equipment and truly learned the importance of what quality work means. Today, they personally order all material themselves to insure the final quality of their finished projects. Quote each job themselves, do all their own drafting and design work if needed, and deal directly with the customer personally. All of these things are what we hope will make you want to deal with us. We were always taught, no one can be all things to everybody. Concentrate on what you know, and become the best at it. If you give us the chance to work for you, if it's a project we don't feel we can do, we'll be the first to admit it.
