Tufts Grinding, Inc.

Tufts Grinding Inc., located in South Chicago Heights, Illinois, was founded by Don and Art Tufts in 1983. Today the company is owned and operated by its second generation, with Bryan Tufts as President and Dan Tufts as Vice President of Operations. The company provides a turned and polished (T&P), as well as a turned, ground and polished (TG&P) steel bar in carbon, alloy, and stainless steel grades. Size capacity ranges from 1/2” to 6” diameter with lengths from 10’ to 40’ long. Material produced is measured for straightness to meet or exceed industry standards.

In 2005, Tufts Grinding implemented Lean Manufacturing which has benefitted in terms of streamlining processes and reducing costs. Lean has also enhanced our product’s consistency in size, straightness, and length for our customers. It has improved our on-time performance to a level that cannot be matched by our competition.

The industries that Tufts Grinding serves are distribution, fluid power, oil and gas, agriculture, and construction. End products include hydraulic cylinders, pump shafts, polished rods and rotors, as well as products that require a bearing to move up and down a bar. Tufts Grinding, Inc.
