Fred Martin Welding

In 1938 Fred Estes Martin opened Fred Martin Welding Company.  As the business grew, he move to the current location in 1949. Fred's wife, Addie, did the bookkeeping while Fred did most of the welding. Their 3 children, Fred, Margery and Philip all spent time at the shop, but it was the oldest, Fred, (known as 'Bub' to many) who eventually took over when big Fred passed away in 1959. Fred, who was an expert welder, ran the business with his wife, Joyce.  Customers still come in who remember Fred welding their bicycles. In 1995 Fred and Joyce retired to the beach, and their nephew, Philip Jr. (known as 'Marty') took over at the helm. Marty, who is also a musician, along with his wife, Kelly and dog Bodie can be found at the shop most days having a great time on Edgwood.
