Hugh DeHaven appointment as a research associate at the Cornell University Medical College in 1942 soon led to the formation of the Aviation Crash Injury Research group (AvCIR). From this small, pioneering research group has grown a diversified and dynamic technical services company devoted to the same principles of science and safety that Hugh DeHaven embraced nearly a century ago 1917 Hugh DeHaven is injured in airplane training flight and begins to research aviation safety. 1937 US Navy asks DeHaven to make its planes safer. 1942 DeHaven becomes research associate at Cornell University Medical College, which leads to formation of Aviation Crash Injury Research group (AvCIR). 1950 Cornell-Guggenheim Aviation Safety Center assumes oversight of AvCIR. 1957 AvCIR moves from New York to Phoenix, Arizona. 1959 Flight Safety Foundation assumes ownership of AvCIR. 1962 By September 1962, AvCIR is operating out of Deer Valley Airport, north of Phoenix. 1963 On 1 May 1963, AvCIR's name changes to Aviation Safety Engineering and Research (AvSER). 1968 Dynamic Science, Inc. (DSI), a division of Marshall Industries, purchases AvSER. Ralph Rockow joins DSI. 1972 Ultrasystems, Inc., acquires DSI in March. 1976 Talley Industries, Inc., purchases DSI. 1982 Exodyne, Inc., owned by Ralph Rockow, purchases DSI in October 1982. 1984 DSI conducts its final automotive crash test and concentrates on engineering services. 1985 DSI branches out to work with disadvantaged youth in New York as a Department of Labor contractor. 1986 DSI provides range support at Redstone Arsenal for Test and Evaluation Directorate of U.S. Army Missile Command. 1987 DSI develops automobile accident reconstruction techniques in collaboration with major trauma centers. 1988 DSI develops a pilot accident investigation program for Honda R&D North America. 1989 DSI wins first helicopter maintenance contract at Fairchild AFB, Washington. 1991 U.S. Army Materiel Command recognizes DSI for its support in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. 1992 DSI supports missile testing at the Integrated Launch Support Center at Vandenberg AFB, California. 1994 DSI wins first contract to provide air traffic control and weather observation services for the National Guard. 1995 DSI does a study of using cell phones in vehicles. 1996 DSI works to Improve Child Safety. 1999 DSI Studies Antilock Brakes for NHTSA. 2000 DSI performs data collection for University of Baltimore in support of NHTSA Crash Injury Research (CIREN) program. 2002 DSI celebrates 60th anniversary. 2002 DSI supports behavior research studies in human factors for NHTSA. 2003 DSI does bus crash causation study. 2006 DSI wins subcontract under Raytheon for the Federal Railroad Administration Field Investigation Training Course Support. 2008 DSI wins its first Air Traffic Control Optimum Training Solution (ATCOTS) contract. 2008 DSI awarded contract at Detroit Metro Airport to expand aviation services into ramp control and gate management. 2012 DSI conducts data collection and crash investigations for FHWA in largest motorcycle crash causation study conducted in USA in over 30 years. 2016 DSI wins the management of Ramp Control Tower Services for SeaTac.
