Crawford & Associates began over 20 years ago serving the civil engineering needs of the Columbia, Greene and northern Dutchess communities. The firm did site plans and road, sewer, water and drainage layouts for subdivisions. Clients then asked for more than site planning services. They needed help in getting their buildings built. So C&A added structural and mechanical engineers by making strategic hires and developing staff.  The firm then added land surveying to its repertoire, with the purchase of Alvin B. Huehnel Land Surveying and Plass, Rockefeller & Nucci Land Surveyors.  C&A now provides a wide range of engineering and land surveying services in an area that extends from the southern portions of the Hudson Valley to the northern reaches of the Capital District.  Surveying has really rounded out C&A’s services. Now if a developer has land to develop, C&A can  work with the client from boundary and topographic surveying, to site layout, infrastructure design, wetland delineation, planning/zoning board approvals and construction oversight.  C&A’s structural, mechanical engineers and building system specialists typically work with architects or building owners on new construction, renovation, repairs or additions.

The type of projects that they work on range from high end homes,  museums and performing arts centers to highway garages, salt sheds and firehouses.  C&A’s structural engineers are known for their innovative solutions to challenging situations. C&A’s mechanical engineers are skilled in incorporating energy efficiency or green technologies into their HVAC designs. Our MEP engineers have hands on experience in operating the systems they design. This enables them to tweak the designs to achieve systems that create the environments desired by our clients.  C&A’s civil engineers and land development specialists are skilled at maximizing profit from land use, incorporating green technologies where they make sense, and getting the approvals and permits needed to get their clients’ projects over the goal line. They advocate for their clients and view regulations with an eye toward meeting their clients’ objectives.  C&A’s environmental engineers have a strong depth and breadth of experience in performing environmental investigations for meeting due diligence requirements, determining the extent and impact of contamination and assisting companies achieve compliance with local, state and federal regulations regarding their waste streams, chemical use, or stormwater (SPDES) management.  C&A is unique in that it has maintained its small size (a staff of 25) but, with its multi-discipline focus, can offer the same wide ranging services that a large firm can.
