Truckn America
3613 Fort Meade Road , Laurel, Maryland, United States | Steel/Iron
In 1975 Truck'n America's founders opened their doors in an old crab shack located in Waldorf, Maryland. One a retired USAF Pilot and another a laid-off construction worker / welder decided that the Truck Cap was a viable product. At first, they set a goal of selling one Truck Cap a day to “get by”. They soon found that they were selling 2 a day, then 3 a day and by 1983, they had grown to 4 locations around the Washington D.C. – Maryland – Virginia metropolitan area. They grew their business to a total of 13 locations that spanned the east coast from New York to Florida. In early 1984 they introduced their own Fiberglass Truck Cap, the Discovery, which had a High Mounted 3rd Brake Light (CHMSL), trimless base rail and Flush Mounted Frameless Glass Windows as standard features. To produce their new Fiberglass Truck Cap as well as Aluminum and Traditional Truck Caps they opened a Truck Cap manufacturing plant in Barstow, MD, that would also serve as their Home Offices, Warehousing and Distribution Facility. Throughout the 80’s they continued to be a leader in the Truck Cap and Truck Accessory market. With the addition of Truck Accessories in the late 70’s into the 80’s their business grew as well as its line of products and expertise.
The 90’s they brought even more advancements to the Truck Cap and Truck Accessory industry. They marketed their business aggressively with TV, Radio, Billboards and other print ads. And even ran a TV commercial during Monday Night Football, ABC local, Washington vs Atlanta. They also gained name recognition from its “Don’t Go Toppless” campaign which needless to say, grabbed a lot of attention. In 1995 and 1996 They opened its “Store of the 21st Century” and gained national industry recognition when featured in Trucking Times as well as earning the title of “Retailer of the Year” from the Truck Accessory News. In 1997 they sponsored a NASCAR “Super Truck” driven by NASCAR Legend, Morgan Shepard in Nazareth, PA. Toward the end of the 1990’s it was becoming apparently clear that their business does a lot more than just Truck Caps. With the addition of their wholesale division, which sells directly to Auto Dealers and other commercial/fleet businesses. They needed to come up with a name that described itself and its products better. Truck’n America currently operates six locations in the Washington D.C. – Maryland – Virginia metropolitan area specializing in Truck Caps, Truck/SUV Accessories and Utility Trailers.
