New Hanover County Recycling

3002 U.S. Highway 421 North, Wilmington, North Carolina, United States | Waste Management

The New Hanover County Department of Environmental Management oversees one of the state’s most innovative integrated solid waste disposal systems. The department operates a recycling drop-off collection system, a Household Hazardous Waste and electronic waste collection system, a RCRA Subtitle D landfill, a Construction and Demolition Debris (C&D) recycling facility, and in-vessel composting operations. The resulting system minimizes the use of land resources consumed for burying the waste we generate, recovers materials for beneficial reuse, and minimizes the potential risks for contaminating the area’s delicate environment.  Wastewater generated by the landfill (“leachate”) is processed through an advanced double reverse osmosis wastewater treatment plant.
