12th Avenue Iron

The founding partners of 12th Avenue Iron, Stephen Marks and Mark Christiansen, joined forces in 2004 and have since grown the company into a team of ten full-time metal artists and craftsmen. We design, build, and install custom architectural metalwork, sculpture, and furniture for commercial, residential, and public environments. Our clients include architects and designers, builders, corporations, universities, private customers, and public artists.  We specialize in large-scale projects requiring unique engineering solutions and ingenious approaches to fabrication and joinery, working with a wide variety of metals that include steel, stainless steel, bronze, copper and aluminum. As a team, we bring together broad and deep experience in metalworking—forging, welding, fabrication, casting, machining, and high-end finishing—and our working relationships with other professional artists and craftspeople allow us to integrate blown and cast glass, wood, stone, and other materials into our projects.  In addition to our technical expertise in the metal shop, we have many years of professional experience in residential construction. We not only know how to fabricate architectural projects, we know how to design them for and install them into the built environment. A staircase and railing system that we produce will be structurally sound, up to code, and visually integrated into the finished space.  Beyond our capabilities as experienced craftsmen, we are also seasoned sculptural artists, offering design services and a keen aesthetic sensibility to everything we build. Depending upon the needs of our clients, and the complexity of a particular project, we can provide hand sketches, detailed shop drawings, and/or sophisticated 3-dimensional CAD renderings before fabrication begins in the shop.  From age-old techniques in forging hot iron to cutting-edge computer technology, our collective experience allows 12th Avenue Iron to provide what we feel is a unique combination of services in the world of custom metalwork: artistic vision, material and skill variety, superior craftsmanship, and rock-solid execution.
