Steel Tech Inc. (STI) was founded in 1989 by second-generation custom fabricator, Scott Smith. The business was originally located in Columbia Heights, Minnesota in a shop of approximately 2000 square feet.  By 1999, STI outgrew its facilities and completed a large addition to the building. Along with the expanded square footage, the ceilings were raised to 24’ to accommodate the large over bridge crane.With business continuing to grow at a rapid pace, STI realized it needed an even larger space. In 2004, STI relocated to Coon Rapids, Minnesota to its brand new manufacturing facility that is currently equipped with multiple 10-ton overhead cranes, allowing increased productivity. The new facility located at 11611 Eagle Street now enables STI to manufacture multiple projects concurrently.
