The Cincinnati Steel Treating Company was founded in 1941 to accommodate the gear industry's metal treating needs in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. By 1950 CST had diversified and moved to 5701 Mariemont Avenue. Through two major expansions it has remained at the same location and now boasts of a 45,000 square foot facility and provides heat treating services to Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and beyond.
Throughout it's 70 year history CST has recognized the need to maintain a modern, full service facility to meet the requirements of its diverse customer base. This has been achieved through the continued upgrading of existing equipment and the installation of new. Some of our more recent updates include a fully computerized furnace temperature and atmosphere control system for carburizing, a nitriding department consisting of four 57 in. diameter furnaces from 70 to 107 inches deep, a multi-station induction machine for hardening small high production parts and shafts up to 36 inches long, as well as newer laboratory and office complex. CST is fully equipped to provide complete heat treating services.Our continued growth has enabled us to become a leader in the metal treating industry. Cincinnati Steel Treating serves customers in the large gears, automotive, machine tool, bearing, heavy equipment, mining, tool and die, industrial knife, foundry, and steel fabrication industries, plus literally hundreds of general purpose machine shops.

Heat Treating Quality
Maintaining a high level of heat treating quality in a commercial heat treating shop requires both management systems that control the processing of work from start to finish and a highly skilled work force. Our documented and certified Quality Assurance Program covers everything from order entry to final inspection and is in conformance with MIL-I-45208 and MIL-STD-45662. We are also proud of the fact that over 40 percent of our workforce has 20 or more years of experience at CST.
Aluminum Processing
Aluminum Processed Parts Cincinnati Steel Treating is the area's number one aluminum heat treating specialist. This includes solution treating, aging, stress relieving and annealing of both cast and wrought aluminum products. For solution treating we have furnaces up to 60 inches in diameter X 60 inches deep. For aging and stress relieving our largest furnace is 10 ft. x 14 ft. x 3.5 ft. high. And, for aluminum annealing a 7 ft. x 16 ft. 9' x 5 ft. car bottom furnace is available. Whether aluminum hardening or annealing is required, CST is able to meet our client’s heat treating needs.
Stainless Steel Processing
Cincinnati Steel Treating is a leader in stainless steel processing for the Midwest and beyond. This includes both 300 series (austenitic) and 400 series (martensitic) stainless steels.300 series stainless steels are often times solution annealed to restore their corrision resistance properties or stress relieved at lower temperatures to improve their dimensional stability. Specific grades and/or pre heat treat manufacturing dictates the necessary processing when hardening or annealing stainless steels.400 series stainless steels, such as 410, 416, 420 and 440C can be hardened in either one of our integral quench furnaces or a pit furnace under a protective atmosphere depending on the nature of the part. It is then tempered to achieve to desired mechanical properties.
Tool Steel Processing
Cincinnati Steel Treating’s Long Parts Application For processing and hardening tool steels, Cincinnati Steel Treating is able to meet a variety of needs. All grades requiring hardening temperatures up to 1950°F can be processed via protective atmosphere at CST. The hardening and precision straightening of tool steel shear blades and knives is a specialty CST routinely performs. Air and oil hardening grades up to 122 in. long are run vertically while air hardening grades can be processed horizontally up to 185 in. long in our muffle furnace.
