American Grinding & Machine Company, one of the largest flat grinding shops in the country. We have twenty-two large surface grinding machines at your service. Welding represents another one of our divisions. We manufacture a heavy-duty steel base or table called the 'BRUTE' Base, which is available in six standard shapes, or it can be completely customized to your needs. We fabricate all types of weldments from small pieces up to 30 tons. We also have a division called Interstate Abrasives, which is a distributorship for abrasive products. Interstate Abrasives stocks and represents over seventy different manufacturers of grinding wheels, diamond wheels, tools, and related products.Within two buildings, American Grinding offers Grinding, Welding, a Steel Warehouse stocked with plates to meet your demands, Flame Cutting, Saw Cutting, Stress Relieving, Shot Blasting, Painting, and Grinding Wheels.

American Grinding prides itself on our craftsmanship. Our operators are trained in house. Once an operator comes to American Grinding, they are trained to our exact standards. We have an ongoing in-house training program to make sure our operators are the best in the industry. We do not have a high turnover rate with our people. Many of our employees have been with us for over twenty years. Because of this continuity, you can be assured of a quality product time after time.

QUALITY CONTROL
American Grinding also prides itself on quality. We have quality checks at every step in our manufacturing process. Each operator checks their work as well as their predecessors. Your job is continually watched through the manufacturing cycle. Each operator has the ability to stop the job on the spot if they need to make a correction. Once your job is completed, a quality control specialist double checks your job before it is shipped.

MAINTENANCE
We also have our own maintenance department here at American Grinding. Our maintenance people can repair any of our equipment. We carry extra spare parts for our grinding machines and keep them in stock. This means that should a piece of equipment go down, we can get it back up and running in a short period of time. This benefits our customers because their job won't have to wait for a machine to be repaired, or for a spare part to be shipped from the equipment manufacturer.

EXTRA EFFORT
Our order entry people ask the questions needed to ensure that the job you're ordering is the job you'll receive on your dock. Our people go over each print before, during, and after to make sure all details have been met. In our welding, and grinding department we have people to 'hand stone' the edges to eliminate any burrs on the corners. This provides a safe smooth edge on your parts.

SHIPPING
After the finishing department, your order is carefully packaged, shrink-wrapped, skidded, and heavy-duty cardboard corners are used so that the bands that secure your order to a skid won't scratch the finish. Once your order is done, it moves into one of our two shipping departments where it's carefully placed in its own holding location waiting for the carrier to pick it up and bring it to you. In the Chicagoland area, we have our own fleet of trucks that can deliver your order to you.

Welding Services
American Grinding is a performance driven company providing a range of precision free-hand welding services executed with unmatched skill and accuracy. Cutting edge MIG, stick, and continuous wire feed welding technology, combined with decades of welding experience and continuous in-process inspections, guarantee high integrity welds in both hot rolled and stainless steel plate and structural fabrications. Our certified technicians carry out the most demanding and precise welding projects and accomplish them with highest level of quality. Clean and defect-free, our welds exhibit the ultimate in strength.

We are a full-service shop and offer many additional services, including thermal and vibratory stress relieving, and all of our weldments are shot or grit blasted to provide a professional finish for optimal paint adhesion. We can match any paint color that you might require, and will carefully package and ship your items to arrive safely at their destination.

Fabrication Services
At American Grinding, our technology-based quality metal fabrication services provide quick and accurate construction of structures and assemblies for customers in the automation, automotive, aircraft, and food production industries. Our comprehensive range of capabilities includes saw and flame cutting, shot blasting, welding, vibration and stress relieving, as well as a variety of machining and finishing processes.

Inside of our well-equipped facility, we have an impressive CNC flame cutter capable of cutting materials up to 14” in thickness. We stock A36 hot rolled steel plate from 0.25” all the way up to 12” in thickness, as well as a variety of stainless and tool steels, alloys, and other metals. Raw material forms include plate, structural, bar stock, I-Beams, angles, and tubing, and we are capable of fabricating components with dimensions of 14’ in length, 10’ in width, 14” in thickness for fabrications weighing up to 10 tons. Our experienced metal workers are the best in the industry, enabling us to meet the most stringent quality standards and tolerance requirements.
