Escondido Plating
860 Metcalf Street, Escondido, California, United States | Steel/Iron
Escondido Plating was built in 1966. Originally it was a roll bar factory where pipes were bent and plated. After changing hands a few times it was finally purchased by John Prestage and Angelo Marone in 1979. In 1994 Don Prestage joined the team to help out after John had a heart attack. In 2002 Don bought out Angelo and became partners with his old man. Although John is retired and living in Oregon these days the two are still partners. At Escondido Plating all of the jobs have a list and photo that stay with the order so you don't have to worry about your non replaceable item being lost or going home with someone else. Every part is personally plated by Don ,who celebrated his 20th year here in April 2014. Don't be fooled by rumors going around stating that there is no more plating in California or that the chrome isn't as good as it was in the past. We declined the tax incentives offered to us if we would switch to the new greener Trivalent chrome system. Knowing our clients into auto restoration would never settle for the less attractive chrome we kept our Hexavalent line which is the same chrome used on your parts originally. It is true that it is next to impossible to obtain a chrome permit in California so we value ours and we follow all environmental laws state and federal. We do not use our grandfather status as an excuse to cut corners and release pollution into the environment. Being a San Diego surfer for almost 3 decades nothing gets me angrier than a dirty ocean.
