BIM, 3-D TEKLA and AutoCAD Technology: We are proud to be up to date with the most current technology. Using BIM integration and 3-D Tekla modeling capabilities, we become a true team player ahead of the class.

Design-Assist/ Design-Build: We are strong believers in the value of Design-Assist and Design-Build coordination. We understand the value that pre-construction coordination in a 3D virtual setting can provide not only for our trade, but for the coordination of other trades as well. Because of our commitment to technology, owners and contractors alike benefit on schedule, price and coordination by selecting us as their preferred steel supplier.

CNC Fabrication Equipment: Our commitment to current technology extends to our automated fabrication systems. We minimize human error in the fabrication process by downloading drawings directly into our CNC systems allowing plate, brace, column and beam fabrication to be virtually error free.

The Sustainable Steel Advantage: We buy mill and warehoused steel with respect to the 'Green Building' applications or for LEED program building. Depending on the section and specification, new steel will have a recycle content anywhere from 30% to 99%. We are committed to environmental stewardship by recycling our scrap and incorporating innovative pollution reducing products, materials and methods in our company processes.

History

Founded in 1973 by Phil Shallenberger, Anvil Steel was originally housed within a 10,000 square foot facility in Gardena, California. Anvil began as a fabricator and erector of light structural and miscellaneous steel for the local beach communities of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. Anvil's original plant had a single overhead bridge crane and a rail bay for ornamental work.In 1985, with the booming southern California economy, Anvil built a new 18,000 square foot crane bay with several overhead bridge cranes across the street from the original plant. Sales multiplied, with the number of employees increasing from 9 to 40.

Phil sold Anvil to Paul Schifino in 1996. Building on the reputation built by Phil of providing the highest quality product for a reasonable price, Paul set Anvil's sights on expanding into the commercial market. Over the next decade, we expanded our facility from 40,000 to 170,000 square feet by acquiring adjacent properties. Our current capacity is over 300 tons per week and we have 180 full-time employees. As we have expanded, our customer base has grown, from contractors building small homes and apartment complexes to include contractors building:

  • Commercial buildings such as Office Depot and Costco stores
  • Office buildings and malls with up to 2,500 tons of steel
  • Schools, police stations, firehouses, libraries and other public buildings
  • Custom homes with up to 350 tons of steel

Anvil Steel is one of the largest steel employers in Southern California. By effective implementation of our Illness Injury and Prevention Program we consciously practice workplace safety and commit to 'NO ACCIDENTS PERIOD.'

Anvil Steel publishes crane, erection and fall protection plans on every project to follow OSHA Safety Standards and protect our workers from fall hazards and workplace injuries. Our Union Ironworkers are trained and certified on each piece of equipment and fall protection device. All foremen meet or exceed OSHA 30 safety training. Riggers and signalmen are trained and qualified. Anvil Steel is equipped to meet contractual '100% Tie-Off' requirements. Our goal is 'SAFETY FIRST.'
