Stevens Steel West

Stevens Steel West started from a man with a vision. In 1965 Marvin Stevens, who at the time was operating as a steel worker, saw a necessity to open a steel service and supply center in the Atlanta, GA area. After a decade of success with Stevens Steel Supply Marvin received an offer from National Steel and sold his company. Returning to his visionary ability Marvin discovered there was a high demand for overhead bridge cranes and in 1978 he opened up a new business called Stevens Equipment Company. Soon after opening Marvin found himself fabricating and thus an evolution in his business occurred.

The passion for steel and fabrication was not just limited to Marvin. His daughter, Lynn, also shared fervor for the work. As a young girl, Lynn worked in the shop with her father and in the mid 80’s began to work full time with Marvin. In 1992 Marvin decided it was time to retire and again sold another successful business he had started.

Many of Stevens Equipment Company’s customers had become very loyal and, in 1994, convinced Lynn to re-enter the steel fabrication business. Operating the new Stevens Steel by herself, subcontracting all of her work, Lynn soon began specializing in the fabrication of steel components for fast food restaurants and other small commercial projects. Lynn soon began to expand and brought David Marney, who performed all of the engineering and drafting for the shop drawings required, yet still subbed out all of the work. Stevens Steel experienced a great amount of success but, with the loss of her father and with a desire to live in the mountains out west, she moved her headquarters to Bozeman, MT.

In 2001 the Atlanta area suffered a slowdown in the Market and Lynn began to look for an area in which she could develop a greater customer base. After working with a small fabrication shop in northwest Montana she began developing a customer base here. As the customer base widened and with a move to Whitefish, MT it became time to open shop in the Flathead Valley. In 2004 Lynn and David, with one shop employee, opened Stevens Steel West.

Since opening Stevens Steel West has grown to 30+ employees and its fabrication projects have included many jobs that topped the scales at over 550 tons of steel, including major schools, hotels, retail & professional buildings throughout not only Montana but, Idaho, Washington, Wyoming and North Dakota.

In 2010 Stevens Steel West was acquired by WMK & Co., in Billings, MT. Our new Owner, Duane Anderson, graciously allowed the operation and management to remain unchanged, with Lynn and David continuing to manage the operation. Our Support Team enables us to provide competitive quality in a complete package from detailing shop drawings through fabrication and erection.

Stevens Steel West is capable of fabricating the steel products needed to complete your project:Includes beams, columns, and all necessary connection materials. Stevens Steel West can provide beams and columns from small to large size material.Stevens Steel West can fabricate stair systems with metal stringers and treads, or we can attach treads to existing wood stringers. Whether it needs to be an exterior industrial stair system, or an interior system with exposed steel, we can build the system to your exact specifications.

DETAILING SERVICES

Stevens Steel West utilizes SDS/2 design software, which allows us to create a 3D model of any project to assure members are properly fit up prior to detailing. This process increases proficiency for all projects, large and small.As the 3D model is input, SDS/2 automatically designs the connections, based off of information from Architectural and Structural drawings provided and input by the detailer.Once the model is completed, shop and erection drawings are automatically generated
