Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Stores of Iowa

The Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores of Iowa (PMCI) is a private not-for-profit state trade association representing independent (not major oil owned or operated) fuel wholesalers, retailers, transporters, travel plazas, car washes and convenience stores throughout the state of Iowa. While many of our members may display the logo of their supplier, they are owned and operated independent of any major oil company. Since 1937, PMCI has existed to encourage a competitive business climate that will promote growth of the independent fuel marketing industry within the state.

PMCI works to enhance its members’ place in the free market system by providing a range of educational programs, publications, supplies and services to help members maintain and operate their business. We’re the business partner of Iowa’s fuel and convenience store industry. PMCI advocates its members’ interests on technical industry and general business issues to the Iowa Legislature and state agencies in addition to working with national associations regarding both federal statutory and regulatory issues.

The association is guided by a volunteer board of directors elected from across the state. The PMCI office is in Urbandale where a full-time staff implements board policy and administers numerous services to the membership. PMCI provides competitive group health and life benefits through the PMCI Trust which is administered by an independent board of trustees for members and like industries. PMCI also owns all shares of a subsidiary, RINAlliance, which provides renewable fuel consulting and compliance services to members of PMCI as well as renewable fuel blenders across the United States. PMCI continues to develop and market new programs to help ensure the success and viability of the ever changing fuel marketing industry.

The association represents more than 2,000 business locations in Iowa providing fuel, c-store, and related services to consumers throughout Iowa who handle approximately 90% of all diesel and 75% of all gasoline sold in Iowa.
