D.T. Read Steel Co., Inc. specializes in placing reinforcing steel, post tension cable, S-I-P metal decking, bridge shear studs, and erecting concrete/steel bridge girders throughout the Eastern, Southeastern, and South-Central United States.  As a Subcontractor, we focus on heavy/Highway projects, commercial projects, industrial projects, and hi-rise building structures. D.T. Read also operates as a General Contractor that currently works on Government Facilities and with local Municipalities.  At this time, we hold certifications as a DBE Contractor certifying our company with eleven different states Department of Transportation.  As a fourth generation Rodbuster, contracting has always been a way of life in our family.  Following family tradition as a Subcontractor, I, Donald T. Read, Jr., started D.T. Read Steel Co. in August 1991.  The original, family rebar placing business was formed in 1962.  Traditionally from 1962, until today, we all have held a perfect 100% project completion ratio and we stand very prideful of that fact.  D.T. Read strives to be the very best at what we do without sacrificing safety, dependability, efficiency, quality, experience and professionalism.

Our History
D. T. Read Steel Co., Inc. was founded in August 1991 by Donald T. Read, Jr. Prior to founding D. T. Read Steel, Mr. Read (also known as Donnie) worked as an ironworker (rodbuster) at Tidewater Construction Company. Although his career at Tidewater Construction was looking promising, his life took an unexpected turn when missing a few days at work led him to leave and begin his own construction company. Ironically, the idea to start his own company began as an explanation for missing work, but led to the beginning of something great.

The first few years were incredibly difficult, as Mr. Read was beginning without start-up capital and was forced to accumulate some debt in order to get the business established. However, over two decades later D. T. Read Steel Co., Inc. has endured and become a stable, reliable company known for its many past quality projects and an atmosphere of efficiency, quality, and excellence.Mr. Read’s company has consistently provided quality service to its customers, and its founder remains committed to keeping his word and running a company of good moral and ethics. Since his salvation in 1999, Mr. Read has had a fresh awareness of the blessings that he and his company have enjoyed thus far, and as a result has an increased determination to hold a high standard of efficiency, quality and excellence in the D. T. Read Steel Co., Inc.
