Back in 1963, Ron Kinning started RK Mechanical in Pender, Nebraska. He successfully grew the small, family-owned business and relocated it to Norfolk, Nebraska in 1969. After moving his family to Colorado, RK Mechanical was incorporated in Denver in 1985. His oldest son, Rick, worked in the family business and aided its Denver expansion. In 1994, RK purchased the site of its current Denver headquarters in Stapleton from the City and County of Denver.

Rick Kinning took over the reigns as CEO, and his brother Jon Kinning has been the company’s long-standing COO. Under the leadership of the Kinning brothers, this second-generation family-owned business quickly grew to become the Rocky Mountain region’s largest mechanical contractor, selected by general contractors and owners to provide HVAC, plumbing and piping systems on major construction projects for all types of facilities. RK has contributed to successful projects worldwide, including many prestigious local projects that define the Denver skyline.Today, RK operates two facilities in Denver and Henderson, Colorado that span 24 acres and include 155,000 square feet of leading-edge fabrication and manufacturing space. In the past ten years or so, RK has diversified into seven business units, making RK the Rocky Mountain Region’s largest single source for mechanical contracting, custom manufacturing, steel fabrication, prefabricated construction, facilities services, electrical work and water treatment solutions.
