Unionvale Coal Co.

210 East Main Street, Ligonier, Pennsylvania, United States | Base Metals

Coal Loaders was incorporated in 1978. The name was chosen because the company started as a coal loading facility at its railroad siding in Derry Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It's purpose was to provide tippling services which included storing, crushing, blending, and loading coal into trucks or unit trains which were typically delivered to electric utility power plants. Donald Lupyan, who has been involved in coal mining since 1974, was hired in 1989 as Superintendent of the Coal yard. In the 1990’s Don recognized the opportunity for surface mining in the area and by 2000 Coal Loaders was in the business of producing coal.

We started to grow and the growth continues. We are proud to say that many of our great employees who worked at the coal yard in the 1990s are still working on our surface mining jobs today.
