General Sheet Metal Works, Inc., is an owner-managed company with roots dating back to 1915, when it was one of Waterloo, Iowa’s early fabricators. The company was then known as Moore Manufacturing. Our founder, Walter M. Widmann worked as a foreman for Moore Manufacturing for many years before purchasing the business. The company was incorporated as General Sheet Metal Works in 1956 and has been operating as GSM ever since. It is currently at the same 217 Rath Street location next to the 18th Street bridge in Waterloo.

GSM is a full line metal service center and retail metal supply center serving Northeast Iowa’s metal users. We offer a well-stocked retail center and warehouse filled with an extensive selection of metals. 

Our customer list has grown to over 500 companies in the Northeast Iowa region. Our customers consistently tell us that the personal service GSM provides is unique in the custom fabrication industry and this is what keeps them coming back year after year.
