In addition to custom and production keels, we carry many other products and offer other services.  In addition to making keels, we also repair damaged keels.  Many times a keel will just need to have bolts replaced or a damaged spot fixed, which is something that we are able to do here at I. Broomfield's. 

We also carry many lead products.  Some of the products availbable are:  lead shot, lead pigs, lead billets, lead blocks of various sizes, and lead sheet.  We have the ability to make just about any size block or shape out of lead, with the proper drawings and measurements.

All of our keels are made the same way.  We begin with a drawing.  This drawing is sent to our pattern maker.  The pattern is sent to us when it is complete, at which time a mold is made.  Lead is poured into the mold, where it sets.  When the lead is cool the keel is removed from the mold.  Once the keel is removed from the mold, our fairing crew goes to work.  Each keel is hand faired.  The keels are ground, wire brushed and puttied several times to acheive the beautiful finish that all of our keels leave with.  We use the West system in the fairing of our keels.  Each time the keel is ground and wire brushed an epoxy resin and hardener are put onto the keel.  After this procedure is done several times, the keel is sanded and Interlux paint is applied.  This part of the process is performed a couple of times.  The whole process takes approximately 12 weeks from start to finish.
