Ross Elizabeth Fine Jewelry

Curious about the gems and jewels in childhood fairy tales, I plunged into a lifelong fascination with precious stones and metals.  Goldsmithing is my passion.  My formal education started at California College of the Arts with a BFA in Metal Arts and continued with studies at the Kulicke-Starke Academy and the Gemological Institute of America, both in New York, and the Revere Academy in San Francisco.  I explored processes and techniques involving direct fabrication, wax carving, rendering, and gemology.  As an art student researching multi-cultural metalsmithing traditions, metales casados (married metals) from Mexico and mokume gane (wood grain metal) from Japan fascinated and inspired me. Blending elements of each technique enabled me to create a hybrid fusion of multicolor and multi-karat gold compositions, each with its own unique rhythm and flow.  I draw inspiration from nature and live by the ocean where moonlight shimmers on the waves and the wind etches patterns into sand dunes.  Sometimes I incorporate literal images such as leaves or flowers into the design; sometimes, abstract patterns and textures.
