Universal Alloy Corporation

180 Lamar Haley Parkway, Canton, Georgia, United States | Aluminum

UAC began as a tool and die shop in Southern California. Since those humble beginnings, it has grown to become one of the world’s leading producers of hard alloy extrusions. Today, UAC has grown to become a strong multi-national company that employs more than 1,200 people throughout our Anaheim, CA; Canton, GA; and Dumbravita, Romania, facilities.

  • 1991 - UAC (Anaheim) acquired by Alu Menziken Group Switzerland
  • 1997 - New Southeast U.S. facility starts operations (Canton, GA)
  • 2005 - Heavy press facility begins operations (Canton, GA)
  • 2006 - UAC acquired by Montana Tech Components
  • 2010 - New European facility start-up (Romania)
  • 2013 - New heavy press begins production (Canton, GA)

UAC supplies aircraft manufacturers and their subcontractors worldwide and has served the aircraft industry for over four decades. We specialize in 2000- and 7000-series alloys, but offer a full range of alloys and tempers that can be tailored to your particular application.

In addition to the hard alloy extrusions we’re known for worldwide, UAC also offers state-of-the-art machining and surface treatment. As we continue to grow to better serve the industry, we’re working to increase our manufacturing capabilities and expand design and assembly services. This is only possible thanks to the hard work of our 1000 dedicated employees who have made us the strong performer we are.

We are trusted by every major aircraft manufacturer and many other industries because they know we deliver – on our promises and our commitment to quality.

Services

Manufacturing.

Our three manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Europe work together to deliver a superior engineered product, whether that be cast billet, hard alloy extrusion, or a finished component. We offer a full range of alloys and tempers. And our in-house R&D group can also develop advanced alloys tailored for specific applications to help find the right balance of strength, damage tolerance, and corrosion resistance.

Economic downturns forced our competitors to scale back, but we don’t answer to Wall Street. So we were able to expand our capabilities by investing in indirect extrusion technology and installing in our Canton, Georgia, facility a press that’s the fourth largest in North America and the first of its size in the U.S. since World War II.

Building upon our leadership position in the aerospace aluminum extrusion market, we opened a forward-integrated manufacturing facility in Romania, the first to be located in an Eastern European EU country. This enables us to meet current market demands and provide full-service value to our customers by integrating billet casting, extrusion, machining, surface treatment, kitting, and assembly into a single facility.

Quality Control

With hundreds of lives and millions of dollars at stake with every takeoff, we take our commitment to excellence quite seriously. That’s why we’ve established a Quality Culture that may seem like overkill to some. But for us, it’s just part of our process.

Our testing capabilities and in-house labs are second-to-none. We perform physical, mechanical, and ultrasonic testing on-site. Plus, our R&D and production labs are set up to do things faster than our competitors – and often even faster than you can do them yourself.

From the talented people running our extrusion presses to the experienced.Metallurgists and Production Engineers,Our people are never satisfied. Each is dedicated to constant improvement in both our product and our process, so that every extrusion profile and part we manufacture is as close to perfect as possible. And if a customer ever has an issue, we do whatever it takes to produce a speedy resolution, even if that means flying out the next day.

Additional services that add more than value

We offer machining, surface treatment, kitting, and assembly services, so we can help get parts bolt-in ready using:

  • State-of-the-art high-speed CNC five-axis machining centers producing extrusion profile and plate engineered components
  • Machining of extruded profiles from cleats through 10m seat tracks
  • Anodizing TSA and SAA future BSA
  • Penetrant testing
  • Automated 12 M anodizing line providing REACH-compliant and environmentally friendly, chrome-free solutions
  • Sealing, painting, and part-marking operations for all OEMs
  • Climate-controlled assembly of products like floor and cargo ramp structures, floor beams, wing cleat kitting.

Engineering

From machining to forming and initial design to final installation, our engineering staff can help you create products that meet or even exceed your requirements. By developing solutions and state-of-the-art profile designs up front, we can avoid costly and time-consuming issues later on. It’s all a part of our commitment to working with our clients to find the most effective and producible part possible.

Our team of design engineers specialize in technology-driven engineering. Each is well-versed in digital modeling and model-based definition to enable the highest-quality product and the most efficient production tooling. In fact, by designing and manufacturing our own tooling, we are better able to control any variations in the parts and minimize the turnaround time on new tooling. And to further enable fast, accurate tooling, our engineering team employs a data interface with our die shop CAM systems.

UAC’s engineering team will:

  • Work with clients to meet specific requirements
  • Provide viable solutions and alternatives to achieve maximum efficiency
  • Exceed client expectations with tolerances as low as 1/10 ANSI H35.2 Standard
  • Generate drawings using CAD and FEA systems software
  • Import and export CAD-KEY parts, Auto CAD-DXF, Auto CAD-DWG, CATIA, IGES (Solid), ACIS SAT, Solidworks SLDPRT, Solidworks SLDASM and Solidworks SLDDRW file formats.
