SERVICES :

PROCESS CONTROLS & AUTOMATION

Control Engineering, Inc. provides full turnkey solutions for a variety of industries. We provide complete ground up solutions, system upgrades and repairs, and discrete system integration. Our work includes programmable logic controller (PLC) programming and human machine interface (HMI) design. Along with this, we have supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems which logs data and relays system information back to the user. This makes information easily accessible and viewable among multiple sites, regardless of location. The benefit of a SCADA system is the information it provides can help optimize production by keeping track of materials, output and real time production.

Along with integration solutions, we are also a UL 508 Panel Shop. We build and test all of our work in-house. Making changes and corrections are much easy to manage. The panel layout and design is done using computer aided design (CAD) software, then assembled and wired at our facility. This ensures that our customers get the highest quality product without any compromise. Our panels have been used in a variety of applications, with a few including:

  • PLC and HMI
  • Process Controls
  • SCADA Systems
  • Energy metering
  • Auto-Demand Response (ADR)
  • Wireless controls

POWER SYSTEMS ANALYSIS

Power systems analysis allows us to check the safety of current electrical systems and provide protection for technicians and operators. Arc-flash analysis is part of this survey. Arc flash is an electrical explosion which occurs when electricity arcs through air or to the ground from a high voltage source. We study these systems and calculate the risk factor to reduce these occurrences by providing safety solutions for our clients. In addition to reducing these risks, we can also prevent them when taking these factors into account during new electrical system designs. Services we offer in this field include:

- Electrical System Engineering, Design & Construction
- Electrical System Safety (Arc-Flash Analysis)
- Utility Service Expansions
- New Service Installation
- Single-line diagrams
- Survey of electrical systems
- ETAP data entry and modeling
- Analysis and Summary reports
- Training of Personnel

DEMAND SIDE MANAGEMENT

CEI works alongside Southern California Edison (SCE) to promote energy efficiency and load shifting systems to earn rebate incentives for the customer. This is achieved by monitoring the existing energy loads, then maximizing the efficiency of the system to shed the power load. Having access to power usage data, we formulate an energy reduction program. This can be done by powering down a machine or idling motors when not in use. Another type of energy management is to reduce energy use during peak (high demand) hours or shifting the energy use to off-peak hours. Demand side applications apply to:

  • Motor control
  • Power Management
  • Combustion efficiency
  • Equipment testing
  • Process controls

SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS & CYBERSECURITY

CEI offers software solutions for a variety of industries. Typical projects we have completed include thermoforming, hospital safety infrastructure and Automated Demand Response (ADR), where specialized solutions were provided for each application. We also offer data migration services from a range of SQL and Oracle databases. Additionally, we can provide software services to integrate plant floor data with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This broad base of experience gives our engineers the tools to provide targeted solutions for a variety of data acquisition and integration goals. We also have experience in the development of unique dashboard displays for visualization and recognition of data patterns, to assist client’s in their decision making process.

Software languages and database handling tools we specialize in include:

-C++
-C#
-Python
-Java
-VisualBasic.NET
-Oracle Database
-Structured Query Language(SQL)

CYBERSECURITY

Complementing our automation and integration services, CEI also offers cybersecurity assessments for our customers. These assessments allows us to find system vulnerabilities to prevent potential attacks and help our customers better prepare for any unscheduled downtime. Our assessment includes:

-Site survey of device and port topology of existing systems
-Review of user and authentication database
-Review of Firewall security configuration, setup, and upgrades
-Development or review of existing system network diagram
-Cybersecurity risk assessment via device architecture

After our complete analysis, CEI will work in conjunction with our customer and their IT staff to address any security flaws detected. By doing this, we can:

-Resolve high risk issues and reduce potential for attacks
-Develop protocols and train staff to handle security exploits
-Limit and contain real time attacks to isolate a system breach
CEI strives to understand each and every unique customer requirement, and to implement the appropriate cybersecurity standards. Within our customer's system and environment, we make sure they are secure.
