Grayson RECC is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative and is located just to the west of the Appalachian Mountains in the rolling hills of northeastern Kentucky. We have a membership of approximately 15,000 members and around 2200 miles of primary lines. Our service area covers a total of 6 counties and is about 60 miles from top to bottom. Our system is a winter peaking system with 100.275 Megawatts of capacity from 11 substations. The substations are fed by East Kentucky Power Cooperative(link is external) located in Winchester, Kentucky.

We have great accessibility to many larger cities. From the heart of our territory,Grayson is less than two hours drive to Cincinnati, OH, Lexington, Kentucky and Huntington, WV. In just three hours you can be in Charleston, WV, Louisville, KY and Columbus, OH. We have a great infra-structure of modern highways that open up the beautiful country side making the drive very scenic and stimulating.

Our headquarters are located in Grayson in a beautifully restored building known as the Bagby Mansion. It was constructed in 1929 by the Bagby Family and is three stories, with over 15,000 square feet of floor space. It is trimmed with beautiful walnut trim and cedar lined closets that are original to the home. Our community room was formerly a ballroom to the Bagby's and has oak hardwood floors with inlaid walnut. The walls in our lobby and ballroom are completely walnut floor to ceiling. Now heated by Geo-thermal heating and cooling systems, it is a building we are proud to occupy.

Grayson is also know as the 'Heart of the Parks'. Within a 25 mile radius of Grayson you will find three state parks; Carter Caves(link is external), Grayson Lake(link is external), and Greenbo Lake(link is external). All these state parks offer a multitude of activities for family and business outings. Activities like swimming, boating, fishing, volley ball, horseshoes, miniature golf, camping, caving, golf and much, much more make them great places to spend time. Also within a 50 minute drive is Cave Run Lake(link is external). One of the countries best muskie lakes, they too offer many of the same activities as the other state parks.

MISSION STATEMENT

Grayson Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation exists to provide safe, efficient electricity and related services to our members, our communities and others who may be affected by our actions and decisions.

COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES

Voluntary and Open Membership

Cooperatives are voluntary organizations, open to all persons able to use their services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.

Democratic Member Control

Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members, who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions. The elected representatives are accountable to the membership. In primary cooperatives, members have equal voting rights (one member, one vote) and cooperatives at other levels are organized in a democratic manner.

Members’ Economic Participation

Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of their cooperative. At least part of that capital is usually the common property of the cooperative. Members usually receive limited compensation, if any, on capital subscribed as a condition of membership. Members allocate surpluses for any or all of the following purposes: developing the cooperative, possibly by setting up reserves, part of which at least would be indivisible; benefiting members in proportion to their transactions with the cooperative; and supporting other activities approved by the membership.

Autonomy and Independence

Cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members. If they enter into agreements with other organizations, including governments, or raise capital from external sources, they do so on terms that ensure democratic control by their members and maintain their cooperative autonomy.

Education, Training, and Information

Cooperatives provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperatives. They inform the general public, particularly young people and opinion leaders, about the nature and benefits of cooperation.

Cooperation Among Cooperatives

Cooperatives serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together through local, national, regional and international structures.

Concern for Community

While focusing on member needs, cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies accepted by their members.
