Guadalupe Valley Elec Co-Op

908 Curtiss Ave, Schertz, Texas, United States | Electric Power

Welcome to the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC).  By becoming a member, you have also become part owner of a private, independent electric utility distributing electricity to over 65,000 meters in 13 counties across South Central Texas.

You are now part of an organization anchored firmly in the communities we serve and committed to providing reliable, value-added services and programs to our membership.  Part of that service means helping you understand what a cooperative is, how it operates, your role within it, and the benefits that come with this unique form of business.

Cooperatives are locally owned and operated by the members they serve.  They are democratically governed by a Board of Directors elected by the members themselves to represent their voice in the business of the cooperative.  The board ensures the cooperative is legally and ethically run according to its by-laws and tariff.

When you are a part of a cooperative, you are not just a member, you are an owner.  As a GVEC member-owner, you are encouraged to become involved in the business of GVEC through:

  • Electing a District Director to serve on the Board of Directors as your voice in Cooperative business.
  • Taking part in District Meetings and attending the Annual Meeting

As a GVEC member-owner, you’ll reap the rewards from capital credit refunds, and stay up to date with the latest electric industry news and local people, places, and events through the GVEC Review found within Texas Co-op Power Magazine, distributed monthly.

GVEC LEADERSHIP

At the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative, leadership is not just a word, it is a philosophy.  From the latest technology available in automated meter reading, innovative research work in renewable technologies, to value-added programs and services that exceed the needs of our diverse and growing membership; GVEC strives to be a leader not only among Texas Cooperatives, but also amongst the 900 total cooperatives across the nation.

Part of that leadership philosophy means having a committed, business-minded Board of Directors and Management staff who make strategic, long-term decisions to ensure a bright future for GVEC.  Facilities, Operations, Member Services, Finances, Corporate services and Technology – it takes a professional team of over 250 employees to plan for and deliver quality service that not only meets, but exceeds, the expectations of our member-owners.

GVEC SERVICE TERRITORY

GVEC serves over 76,000 meters throughout 13 counties, primarily in DeWitt, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Lavaca, and Wilson Counties, but also serving parts of Hays, Comal, Fayette, Caldwell, Goliad, Karnes, Victoria and Jackson Counties. The service area extends approximately 100 miles from East to West and 75 miles from North to South totaling about 3,500 square miles of service territory.  GVEC’s electric system encompasses over 258 miles of 138 kV and 69 kV transmission lines with 62 power transformers, supplying power to 45 distribution substations. GVEC has over 9,400 miles of overhead and underground distribution line, leading from these substations, bringing electricity to your homes and businesses.

GVEC maintains a state-of-the-art SOCC (System Operations & Control Center), monitored 24 hours per day, in Gonzales which electronically monitors each GVEC substation.  In addition, our service linemen are on-call, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year in each area of the service territory to ensure quick response if a problem occurs.
