Kenergy is an electric distribution cooperative.  Read our Nondiscrimination Statement.

As a co-op, Kenergy is member-owned and operates on a not-for-profit basis.

Net margins, which is the difference between revenue and expenses, are put back into the co-op to help run the business efficiently, or those net margins are returned to members through a refund called capital credits.  Since 2012, Kenergy has returned a total of about $13 million in patronage capital to members and former members.

Kenergy exists to provide safe and reliable electricity at an affordable price.

The cooperative was established in July 1999 through the consolidation of Henderson-Union Electric Cooperative (organized in 1936) and Green River Electric (organized in 1937). Henderson-Union was the first electric cooperative in the state to sell electricity to a member. Frank T. Street of Cardinal Farms in Henderson County received electricity from the co-op in October 1937.

Kenergy has grown to serve more than 56,000 homes and businesses in Breckinridge, Caldwell, Crittenden, Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, McLean, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Union and Webster counties.  The cooperative maintains more than 7,000 miles of power line.

The cooperative strives to provide reliable electricity at affordable prices.

For example, the average member pays only $5.35 per day to heat and cool homes, light living spaces, run TVs and computers, cook meals, take baths and more!

To serve our member-owners better, we provide convenient payment options, such as budget billing and automatic payments, and the co-op’s mobile app is an easy way to make payments and enter meter readings. The mobile app also provides useful information. With a quick look at the app, you can view your home’s historical usage.

Member Information

Kenergy is members’ one-stop shop for information about using energy wisely, generator safety and electrical safety. Kenergy offers rebates for both residential and commercial members who choose to reduce their energy consumption through high efficiency upgrades.

The cooperative has created programs to help its members prepare for disasters and store food safely.

We believe our job goes beyond providing electricity. Our members trust Kenergy to be a watchdog on legislative matters that could impact the cost of electricity, and they expect us to keep their interests at the heart of what we do.
