Medina Electric Cooperative

2308 18th St, Hondo, Texas, United States | Electric Power

Medina Electric Cooperative, Inc., a not-for-profit electric cooperative, was formed in 1938 under the provisions of the United States Rural Electrification Act and incorporated under the provisions of the Texas Electric Cooperative Corporation Act. Like other co-ops, we operate under seven guiding cooperative principles and were born out of the need for electricity in South Texas.

SERVICE AREA

Medina EC maintains over 9,300 miles of line across 12,000 square miles while serving all or parts of 17 counties (Atascosa, Brooks, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, Frio, Jim Hogg, Kinney, LaSalle, McMullen, Medina, Real, Starr, Uvalde, Webb, Zapata and Zavala)  in South Texas.

Mission Statement:

Exceed Member Expectations In Everything We Do

Power is purchased on a wholesale basis, through purchase agreements with South Texas Electric Cooperative (STEC) and San Miguel Electric Cooperative (SMEC). Although it varies from month to month, the power mix that we use to provide our members with electricity generally looks like this.

The Leadership

Medina EC is governed by a nine person, member-elected board of directors and daily operations are led by Mark Rollans, who has served as CEO since January 2007.

Financing

The lines and facilities have been constructed with funds obtained by loan agreements from theRural Utilities Service (formerly Rural Electrification Administration or REA), a division within the United States Department of Agriculture, the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC) and CoBank.
