FRANKLIN RURAL ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE is an electrical distribution cooperative serving Franklin, the southern third of Cerro Gordo, and parts of Butler, Floyd, Hardin and Wright counties in Iowa.

Corn Belt Power Cooperative in Humboldt is our generation and transmission cooperative.

Owned and controlled by the people it serves, Franklin REC was established in 1936 and is located North of Hampton on Highway 65.

Your safety is our priority

Because we care about the safety of you and your family, Franklin Rural Electric Cooperative is active in the educating about and promoting electrical safety. We provide educational programs, have developed a number of safety web sites, and have tips to share with you. Read on for information and links that may be of interest to you and your family. And, of course, you can always contact us for more information on any of these topics.

We offer educational and safety programs: 

Franklin REC is very active in the promotion of electrical and farm safety education. Cooperative employees participate in Farm Safety Day and county fairs demonstrating high voltage and safety awareness.

We also visit area schools and would be happy to volunteer at your school or for your organization to demonstrate the importance of electrical safety.

  • Touchstone Energy Kids Zone This site is a cool place for kids to learn about electricity, energy savings and electrical safety.
  • Kids Korner  Explore energy sources, efficiency, and safety, and perform experiments, try out activities, and play games.
  • Energy Kid's Page Check out information about renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, learn about recycling and why it's important, and find some great jokes, energy slang, and activity pages.
  • Energized Learning This site offers information for middle and high school students, teachers, and parents.
  • Safe Electricity.org This site includes tips, news articles, videos, teacher materials, and much more.

  • Iowa One Call. If you are planning on doing any building or landscaping, you will need to call Iowa One Call at least 48 hours prior to any digging. This allows your local utilities to mark any underground wires, etc. This is for your safety and will help to eliminate interruption of service.
