Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative

P.O. Box 249 150 Cooperative Way, Huntley, Montana, United States | Electric Power

Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative is one of the nations 1,000 electric cooperatives. We currently have 47 dedicated employees sharing the goal, “To Make Life Better With Electricity”. YVEC has come a long way since its humble beginnings and continues to prosper for the 12,000 member-owners.

In 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill allowing Rural Electrification Administration (REA) to make low interest loans available to newly formed utilities such as YVEC.

On February 23, 1937 sixteen area Montana pioneers formed the Yellowstone Valley Electric Association, known today as Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. During the early 1940s, the Billings Substation was the first delivery point to come on line and serve the entire system. Over the years YVEC has continued to grow and today YVEC has a total of 19 distribution substations, two transmission substations and over 2,300 miles of line serving over 14,500 meters.

Service Information

Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative is dedicated to excellent service. Our employees understand that life is indeed better when your power supply is safe, dependable, and convenient. That is why we have programs in place to make electricity available “at the flip of a switch.”

At YVEC, we are dedicated to this high level of service 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. If an outage does occur, as they sometimes will, our service crews will respond swiftly to your call. Day or night, rain or snow, our crews are working to put you back in power. All it takes is a local call because we are your neighbor.

New Service

When requesting service for a new home or a business, be sure you call as far in advance as possible, as our membership is growing rapidly and the request list is very active. The process for a new service begins by calling our office to schedule an appointment to meet with one of our staking engineers on site. In the field, the staking engineer will help design a system for your power needs, stake the proposed line, and calculate a cost estimate.  Line extension fees are based on the actual cost of construction. Most engineering field appointments involving the construction of new electric line will be subject to a prepaid Origination Fee of $150.00.

Usage & Billing

Welcome to the Usage and Billing section!  Here you can obtain information about YVEC’s payment options, our rate classifications and electrical rates in each class.  Information is also available concerning individual power consumption and how you can use energy wisely.  You may also access details of how to get a YVEC professional to analyze your energy usage at your residence or place of business.
