We have 2.3 billion tons of high quality coal reserves and in 2007 we produced and sold nearly 40 million tons of coal.The size and quality of our coal reserves enable us to provide top quality products to wide range of customers including thermal coal for power generating utilities, custom blend industrial coal for industrial customers, and high quality metallurgical coal for use in the production of steel.Massey is the largest coal producer in the Central Appalachian region, which is the principal source of low sulfur bituminous coal in the United States, used for power generation, metallurgical coke production and industrial boilers. Central Appalachian coal accounted for 20% of 2007 United States coal production according to EIA.
