RECURRENT ENERGY IN ONTARIO
Ontario continues to usher in a transition of the province’s electricity supply to clean, renewable resources. The commitment to utilize emission-free sources of energy such as solar has helped Ontario’s achieve their goal of retiring coal-fired electricity generation. The shift to renewable sources has led to many significant and positive impacts on both the economy and the environment.
Attracted by the province’s strong commitment to renewable power, Recurrent Energy opened its Toronto office in 2010. Recurrent Energy has had strong success in Ontario’s Feed-in Tariff Program, having successfully developed, constructed and commissioned 20 solar power projects totaling 220 MWp/159 MWac. The first projects in this 20-project portfolio came into service in early 2013, with the final project coming online in mid-2014. These facilities will provide clean solar-generated electricity to Ontario for the next 20 years.
In 2013, Recurrent Energy was named Developer of the Year by the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA).
220MW Operating in Ontario
Across Recurrent Energy’s 20 existing projects in Ontario, more than 2,700 jobs were created. In addition, roughly 60 percent of the materials for the projects were manufactured or sourced in Ontario, providing an important boost to the local economy. The 20 projects generate enough clean solar energy to power roughly 26,500 average Ontario homes a year.
Upon completion, Recurrent Energy transitioned the ownership of their Ontario projects to well-known strategic investors including MetLife, Fiera Axium Infrastructure, and Mitsubishi Corporation. The projects were grouped into three portfolios - the “Aurora,” “Borealis” and “Sunningdale” portfolios.
Recurrent Energy in the Community
Community outreach and consultation is an integral part of Recurrent Energy’s project development process. Every project and municipality is unique, so our team works closely with local municipality and community members to understand priorities for the region. We believe that our solar farms should fit-in with the communities within which we operate. As a key part of our process, Recurrent Energy engages directly with local residents to identify, understand and address any concerns.
Recurrent Energy is a proud supporter of the communities in which we develop projects.
