BioFuelNet Canada

355 Peel,, Suite 201, Montreal, Quebec, Canada | Renewable Energy

Our Vision: the emergence of a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable and globally competitive Canadian bioeconomy, based on advanced biofuels and related bioproducts.

Our Mission:

to catalyze the expansion of Canada’s bioeconomy by creating a national network to drive the commercialization of advanced biofuels and bioproducts through integrated research, innovation, smart policy and strategic partnerships.

BioFuelNet Canada is a network that brings together the Canadian biofuels research community to aggressively address the challenges impeding the growth of an advanced biofuels industry, while focusing on non-food biomass as biofuel feedstocks. BioFuelNet includes renowned, multi-disciplinary experts from academia, government, industry and investment working together in a concerted and synergistic way. This group is working to develop and apply novel and innovative science, engineering and socio-economic strategies that will enhance environmental sustainability for future generations.

Canada has a wealth of biomass, as well as many agricultural and forestry waste and by-products that can be used to manufacture biofuels. However, before we can use these sources to produce advanced biofuels, further research is needed to ensure they can be produced sustainably, economically and in large enough quantities to have an impact on Canada’s fuel consumption. In parallel, focused research must be conducted on the most efficient conversion processes, while rigorous testing must ensure the final fuel products are acceptable for use.

BioFuelNet is focused on unlocking the tremendous potential of lignocellulosic feedstocks and other advanced biofuel feedstocks in the production of advanced biofuels. With lignocellulosics making up over 90% of available biomass in Canada, the challenge of effectively converting this biomass into fuels is central to the growth of the Canadian biofuels industry.
