We develop and sell seed for a crop called Brassica carinata – a non-food, industrial oilseed that delivers high-quality oil that is ideal for use in the biofuel industry, and high-quality protein that is used as animal feed.

We have commercialized elite lines of this crop under the brand name Resonance carinata.

Known as a “drop-in” crop, Resonance brand carinata requires no specialized production and processing techniques or equipment. Farmers can plant it, care for it and harvest it with the equipment they already have. Grain companies can move it through systems already in place and processors can crush it in facilities that already exist.

And everyone along that value chain profits by being able to grow, sell and process a crop that is uniquely suited to the high-value biofuel market.

Resonance Brand Carinata Varieties

An industrial oilseed that’s well suited to semi-arid growing regions with good resistance to biotic stressors, like insects and disease, as well as abiotic stressors, such as drought and heat, Resonance brand carinata gives producers an opportunity to add a profitable oilseed into their rotations. All varieties have a larger seed size, compared to other Brassica crops, and offer good resistance to pod shatter and lodging, making them both excellent candidates for straight cutting and easier harvestability.

Resonance brand carinata AAC A100 and AAC A110 are hardy performers across prairies regions. Highly branching with medium plant height (120cm/47 inches), and consistent performance across multiple sites and across diverse growing conditions. These varieties have proven to be resistant to frost.

Agrisoma has offered three varieties of Resonance brand carinata for commercial production:

  • AAC A120
  • AAC A110
  • AAC A100

Agrisoma has conducted commercial production with these varieties in the prairies, the southeast United States and South America.

New varieties specially selected for region production zones are being introduced for 2016, including new varieties that have been developed for the Southeast with increased tolerance to frost and disease.  Agrisoma operates nurseries and variety trails in multiple locations in Canada, United States, Chile, Uruguay, Australia and Europe, enabling rapid selection of regionally adapted varieties.
