Mitra was founded in 2005 and upon a successful reverse takeover of Petra Petroleum Inc. in 2015, Mitra was subsequently listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX). Mitra Energy Inc. ('Mitra') took its name from an ancient word that conveys the spirit of the company. The word ‘Mitra' appears in Indo-Iranian, meaning 'covenant”, “treaty”, “agreement” or “promise', while in Sanskrit, it signifies 'friend' or “alliance”. The choice of name was made in recognition of the fact that success in the oil and gas business cannot be achieved in isolation, but rather requires a partnership with host countries, industry peers, staff, investors and all other stakeholders.

Mitra is engaged in exploration, appraisal and pre-development activities in South East Asia, with a portfolio of 10 exploration and pre-development assets. Indeed, Mitra is one of the most active operators within the region and the company's principal focus is on assets in Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Portfolio validation comes from a successful record of farmouts to joint venture partners that include Total, ExxonMobil, BHP Billiton, GS Energy and Talisman.

To date, Mitra has made four important discoveries, giving a commercial success rate of 25%. Discoveries in Vietnam are delivering major new energy resources for that country, whilst two discoveries in the Philippines indicate significant untapped potential in this key focus area.

Mitra has an experienced management team and a strong, supportive register of institutional investors. The company prides itself on its technical excellence and has a team of more than twenty technical staff, all of whom have considerable experience in the focus countries. This robust technical core to the business underpins Mitra's exceptional ability to identify, capture and maximise the value of its portfolio of assets.

The company recognises that local presence is essential to create, build and maintain partnerships in the region. To this end, Mitra established its corporate headquarters and principal technical teams in Kuala Lumpur, with country operational offices in Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City, plus representations in Singapore and Hanoi.
