Industrial Metal Plating has been serving customers as a quality metal finisher specializing in color anodizing and chemical brightening of aluminum parts for almost 60 years. In 1959 Perry Leahman and Sam DiBlasi set up a small metal plating business in an old officer’s mess hall located behind the Reading Airport in Reading, Pennsylvania that had not been used since the end of WWII. Later, they joined forces with Herb and Ralph Maack, owners of Pottstown Plating Works, and for the next eleven years the company continued to operate on a small scale. In 1971, Greg Maack, the son of Ralph Maack was discharged from the army and wanted to work in the family business in Pottstown. His father sent him to Industrial Metal Plating in Reading to get some experience. Greg spent the next fifteen years learning the business and eventually bought out all of the partners. He modernized equipment, added new plating processes, made several additions to the building, and grew the company from 12 employees to 65.In 1986, a fire completely destroyed the entire company. Greg immediately went to work to rebuild his business where the original IMP once stood. One year later, the new state of the art facility was complete. Aluminum anodizing and chromate conversion were the primary finishes that they now provided. In 1995, Greg’s son, Jamey Maack joined the company after graduating from college. He, like his father, learned the business from ground up participating in every job the and position company had to offer. He modernized technology, added new processes and implemented current business practices.
