Advanced Oxidation Technology is a patent holding and technical consulting firm that licenses, manufactures and sells a specialty oxidation chemical to a network of distributors for the treatment of contaminated wastewater, gas and soil.

Advanced Oxidation Technology (AOT) has provided its innovative, highly cost-effective, catalyzed chemical oxidation processes for treatment of contaminated soil, sludge, and wastewater since 1999. AOT catalysts, in combination with a variety of oxidants, allow for the treatment of a wide variety of recalcitrant chemicals, including pesticides, chlorinated organics, MtBE, 1,4 Dioxane and many others. Additionally, the process has proven to be particularly effective for rapid treatment of sulfide related odor and corrosion issues and is currently being used for this application at large industrial and municipal treatment facilities across the U.S.

AOT products are being used across the country and world to treat recalcitrant organic compounds in wastewater and groundwater. Our process uses one of our patented organic catalysts plus one of a variety of oxidizing compounds including calcium, magnesium and hydrogen peroxide, percarbonate, ozone, persulphate or permanganate to degrade recalcitrant organic compounds immediately upon contact. Additionally, our catalyst may be deployed in the presence of oxygen, resulting in an enhanced oxidation effect beyond oxygen alone. With this technique, wastewater, groundwater, or soil containing organic contaminants can be completely oxidized on contact. A broad list of treatable chemicals would include selected pesticides, petroleum hydrocarbons, complex cyanides and chlorinated solvents. Included in the list of readily treatable chemicals are such notable contaminants such as MtBE, TCE, BTEX, and PCE. AOT catalysts are also extremely effective at removing Hydrogen Sulfide from wastewater and sludge. When dosed correctly the target organic compound(s) and AOT catalyst are consumed in the treatment process, leaving only CO2, salts and water as final products with complete oxidation.

A Network of Distributors with Proven System Implementation Results

AOT products are installed by one of our highly-capable distributors located across the US and at select international locations. Should we believe our products will be effective for your treatment needs, one of our distributors will work with you to design, quote and demonstrate a treatment system. AOT products can be deployed in a variety of ways and are easily adaptable to existing treatment systems. The contact time for the oxidation process to occur is short, varying from a few minutes to 3 hours, depending on the nature of the targeted compound(s) and the physics of the matrix in which they are found. Our products are currently being used to treat wastewater streams ranging from as small as 20,000 gallons per day to 75 million gallons per day. We have found our treatment systems to be consistently more cost efficient and effective at treatment than our competition because our chemicals do not need to be dosed in extremely high volumes or require the use of complex and expensive deployment equipment. Our designs are simple – metered injection of the ingredients, rapid in-line mixing, and adequate retention time are the primary design criteria.

Wastewater Treatment

Deep experience in large scale wastewater treatment challenges

The AOT treatment process can be employed in a variety of ways and is easily adaptable to existing wastewater treatment systems. The process treats a wide variety of organic chemicals including a long list of chlorinated solvents, pesticides and other recalcitrant chemicals. It has also been used effectively for treating odors associated with hydrogen sulfide which is known to cause significant corrosion of concrete and metal infrastructure and can be lethal when it persists at high concentrations in the air.

The AOT process is very simply applied in wastewater treatment. The process requires a correct injection of one of our patented catalyst and a variety of oxidizing agents such as calcium, magensium, hydrogen peroxide, ozone, persulphate or halogenated compounds, brief mixing and adequate retention time using minimal equipment. The contact time for the oxidation process to occur is short, usually well under 3 hours.

The AOT Process can replace existing oxidative wastewater treatment systems of any size. Out systems treatment systems are often more efficient and provide for lower cost than competing oxidation treatment systems.

Destruction of sulfide related odors

AOT Products can treat a variety of compounds, but perhaps the very best thing they do is oxidize hydrogen sulfide and sulfonated organic chemicals known to cause lethal odors in wastewater treatment. The cost for control of these substances is low which is why our catalysts are being used by dozens of municipalities and industrial wastewater generators across the US and abroad. On site testing at municipal wastewater plants have shown the efficiency of destruction to be so high that it allowed for cost savings in a comparative study against chlorine, calcium nitrate, thioguard, iron salts, ozone and others. Further, the destructive reaction kinetics are quite rapid with a 100 ppm solution of hydrogen sulfide being 80% reacted in the first minute and completely oxidized in less than 5 minutes.

Application is straightforward – the process simply requires metering of the catalyst with the oxidizing agent into the targeted wastewater with adequate mixing and the correct pH. The reaction occurs quickly thereafter.

Since the treatment occurs at or near neutral pH, there is no need for expensive equipment of special construction for metering the catalyst. Metering of the oxidizing agent component typically requires a commonly available PVC or polyethylene metering pump.

Importantly, there are no compounds within our products that would cause concern for corrosion of piping.
