Jupiter Aluminum

4825 Scott St., Schiller Park, Illinois, United States | Aluminium Recycling

Jupiter Aluminum Corporation is an aluminum mill and provides mill finish and painted coils. The company was founded in 1992 by Dietrich M. Gross and is privately owned.

Jupiter Aluminum is 100% scrap based and produces essentially 3000 series alloys. The company serves mainly the Building and Construction markets, but also supplies Service Centers and Federal and State Governmental agencies. In the 1990s, Dietrich Gross, Chairman and CEO was concerned about the rising cost of fossil fuel and environmental issues inherent with the operation of furnaces. He envisioned the use of oxygen instead of air for combustion in the natural gas aluminum melting furnaces. Internal research developed a break-through technology – the Oxy-Fuel Technology – which greatly benefited the company through:

  • Increased process efficiency and reduced costs: compared with traditional air-fossil fuel methods, the company saw an average 73% reduction in fuel usage.
  • Remarkable environmental results: since ambient air is excluded, there is a virtual elimination of NOx in the exit gases as well as a significant reduction in other greenhouse gases, except for CO2 which is highly concentrated in the flue gas – making capture easy and therefore far less expensive.

Jupiter Aluminum is a major employer in northern Indiana and has grown substantially since 1992. Located on 25 acres and with more than 600,000 square feet under one roof, the company has emerged as a significant actor in the Building and Construction market.During the last ten years, the plant has been substantially upgraded and virtually replaced. In December of 2004, a new 42' Hazelett Continuous Caster was installed to bring the company's output to a new volume platform. The employees of Jupiter Aluminum are our most important resource.
