The Eickhoff history started in 1864 when the company was founded by Johann Heinrich Carl Eickhoff. It began as a small foundry in Bochum, Germany built to meet the needs of the mining industry by supplying wheels for mining trolleys. In 1914, Eickhoff built thefirst bar cutting machine in Continental Europe. The first hydraulic cutting machine was launched in 1950, and the first longwall shearer loader was introduced in 1954.

To continue better serving the ever changing needs of the industry, the company underwent a major restructuring in 2000, which led to the current conguration of the Eickhoff Group. The Eickhoff Group consists of five major business units - mining machinery, gear transmissions, cast products, locomotives and coke oven machinery.

Today, Eickhoff Group has more than 1,800 employees throughout the world. While world headquarters has always remained in Bochum, Germany, the company is represented on five continents having oces and subsidiaries in the United States, South Africa, Australia, Poland, Belorussia, Russia and China . 

As one of the oldest continuous working examples in the world, the in-house foundry at Bochum allows us to maintain very close controls on the high metallurgical quality components used in our products. With this foundation, Eickhoff produces gearing and shafting that is unequalled. Our manufacturing facility in Bochum is ISO 9001 certified.

Today, the many uses of high quality Eickhoff gearing, well known in the mining and material handling industries, extend well beyond the coal industry where it all started. In addition to continued success in the coal industry,these products are also used in soft rock mining, power plants, quarries, tunneling projects, and more recently in the wind turbine industry. The mining machinery division is the largest division. With a worldwide population of well over 300 shearers, and countless gearcases of dierent types in various industries, Eickhoff has also expanded into the traditional room and pillar mining market with its own continuous miner in South Africa, Belorussia, China and Russia.

Eickhoff sells about 50 shearer loaders annually. The SL 900 is our newest machine weighing about 115 tons. Installed power is 3,400 hp and the machine is suitable for coal seams up to 5.5 meters (18 ft.) high. Aside from the development of high seam Cutting edge advances in automation technology have lead to the development of EiControl and EiControl SB software packages. Eickhoff shearers are powerful, reliable, have world-class gearing and demonstrate high productivity. Eickhoff provides 24/7 service and life-cycle management.

At our U.S. facility located in Pittsburgh, PA we pride ourselves on timely customer service and our ability to provide quality OEM rebuilds that are on time and done at a competitive cost.

During 2014, Eickhoff celebrated its 150th anniversary and during the year, orders were received for multiple machines of all four types of Eickho Shearer Loaders. These came from Alabama in the U.S., China, Bosnia, Slovenia, Russia, Poland and Australia.

In mining, we combine this core competence with our knowledge of cutting technology to develop a line of coal and mineral cutting equipment that is reliable and gets the job done. Our face conveyor gearcases, along with our shearers and milling cutters offer low cost solutions to the many problems encountered in the underground mining industry.

Our superior gearing is also directly applicable to the power generation industry. Our ANO speed change gearcases and wind turbine gearcases provide a low cost, highly reliable means to couple a prime mover to the electrical generator.
