St. Louis Composting

39 Old Elam Avenue, Valley Park, Missouri, United States | Waste recycling

As any seasoned gardener or landscaper knows, the most important thing you can do to enhance a lawn or garden is to cultivate better soil. And the single best way to do that is to condition your soil with compost, one of the finest organic supplements known to humankind. For over two decades, St. Louis Composting has been the region’s leading producer of nature’s ultimate renewable resource. We supply hobbyists and professionals alike with top quality compost, topsoil and soil blends and a variety of mulches while simultaneously reducing landfill waste across the metro area.

Founded in 1992 by eco-enthusiast Patrick Geraty, St. Louis Composting has blossomed into the region’s largest compost producer. St. Louis Composting’s mission is to help make the world a little greener and reduce landfill waste by producing compost of the highest quality.

Together, our six composting facilities process roughly 600,000 cubic yards of green material annually – more than one-third of all yard waste generated in St. Louis County. In addition to composting yard trimmings gathered by the area’s major waste haulers, we receive and compost material collected from landscapers and homeowners.

Locations

St. Louis Composting is based in Valley Park, Mo. It is also home to a 26-acre composting facility which carries our full line of STA-certified compost, topsoil and soil blends and a variety of mulches. Our neighbors in the Metro East are similarly served by a 52-acre composting facility located just west of Belleville, Ill. A third facility on four acres in Maryland Heights, Mo. is a transfer station for neighborhoods in North and West St. Louis County and accepts yard waste including trees, limbs and brush. In the City of St. Louis, we operate a processing center and retail outlet on a 10-acre site off Hall Street in the Baden neighborhood. Our fifth facility is located in North St. Louis County sits on 19 acres. And finally added in 2014, our sixth facility is located inPacific, Mo and is a 26 acre composting facility.

Composting is nature’s way of recycling. For thousands of years, ecosystems have survived and thrived by self-producing compost from spent plant material. Our professional staff is trained to produce high-quality compost from your plant materials and yard trimmings. Compost contains essential nutrients and moisture that help plants grow by:

  • improving the structure, drainage and water-holding capacity of soil
  • encouraging deep-rooting
  • helping to suppress plant disease, and
  • reducing erosion
