KmX Chemical Corp
2270 Speers Road , Oakville, Ontario, Canada | Liquid Oils and Chemicals Recycling
KmX began development of specialty membranes for separation and recovery of valuable chemicals and water treatment in 2005. We have worked in partnership with the Canadian government to develop our technology for industries needing more cost effective and efficient solutions for wastewater treatment and management. KmX developed a pilot plant in partnership with the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership in 2011 to work on applications with the biofuels and bioproducts companies in the region. Our first commercial membrane systems were installed at the KmX Chemical Corporation recycling facility site in New Church, Virginia in 2012 for separation and recovery of dilute organic chemicals from wastewater streams. KmX began ramping up commercial membrane and systems sales in 2014.Clean water, life’s most precious resource, is becoming increasingly scarce. Meeting the basic needs of 9 billion people requires a rethinking of how we manage water and other natural resources.
New solutions are needed that help use resources more efficiently while limiting environmental impact. Technologies that can economically reclaim and reuse wastewater minimize environmental impact and reduce pressure on scarce water sources. KmX’s water technology platform is part of that solution. As a leading innovator in membrane distillation technology we offer cost effective solutions to treat and recover maximum value from difficult to treat water and wastewater. We partner with integrated water solution providers for direct sales of membrane systems and design and build integrated full solutions for specific applications.KmX has a pilot facility for treatment evaluation and systems design located in Sarnia, Ontario at the Lamberton-Sarnia Business Partnership. KmX’s affiliate KmX Chemical is full-sale wastewater treatment and recovery facility located in New Church, Virginia where all of KmX membranes are commercially operated.
KmX’s proprietary membrane systems offer the lowest cost treatment and highest purity recovery options for difficult to treat industrial wastewaters.Membrane distillation (MD) is a thermal separation technology that provides several cost and performance advantages for difficult to treat wastewater compared to either direct membrane or distillation technologies alone. MD uses uses low temperature heat, typically waste heat from industrial processes that generate the wastewater, to drive molecular diffusion through microporous, hydrophobic or hydrophilic membranes. The driving force for mass transfer is based on the differences in partial pressures between the liquids on either side of the membrane (e.g., wastewater feed and the permeate). MD offers unique advantage over traditional membrane processes (e.g., reverse osmosis) because its productivity its largely independent of feed concentration and can operate over a much wider range of wastewater compositions at lower temperatures and pressures. The KmX technology platform incorporates standard hollow fiber polymer membranes with unique surface chemistry into patented engineered membrane systems. Combining the high selectivity and separation capabilities of our low-cost membranes with low temperature heat available from most industrial processes, KmX MD technology can economically produce, high-purity water and recover valuable chemicals across a wide range of water and wastewater applications.
